Printers

Well, Drew ordered my printer today. I decided on an HP B8850 Photosmart printer. I am really excited about it. Now, I have no excuse to hold me back from learning "digital" art. I will have a printer that prints using 8 colors, excellent photo quality and prints up to 13 x 19 inches! How cool is that?

Can you imagine being able to print 12 x 12 layouts? I am so jacked! I hated having to "cut and paste" all the time, making my art look as thought I "cut and pasted" on purpose.  I am really excited about this, I have been wanting/needing a new printer for quite awhile now. I see all the beautiful art created by Michelle Ward and Ro Bruhn, I so love the look by have no clue how to even begin. I'm going to study the pages by Michelle on "digital brushes" in  Somerset Digital magazine, as well as all the hints in Somerset Memories.

Wish me luck! Wish me tons of art! Wish me a good time with my new printer and Adobe Photoshop, Corel Printshop and Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Two posts in one day, must mean it's a day for art

I've been working in my "Wreck This Journal" that my dear friend Timona gave me, it's a wonderful "push" from her to get my butt in gear. To create again! I am posting a couple of pages and a "non blurry" pic of the cover! I have yet to destroy the cover, I've tried to get Gray-cy to chew on it but she thinks I'm a nutcase! I'm actually "giving her the okay to chew on something"! Here's a couple pics of my attempt to destroy the book....Wreck_002

Itty Bitty Art

I had the most relaxing time creating in the beautiful book of layers! I am most overjoyed that the art just flowed through my fingers. Pop a bit of "rock" in the stereo, open the windows to the cool summer breeze and get my fingers dirty with paint....what more could a girl ask for? I am so thrilled with my painted fingers....art paint instead of the house paint I've been applying. MUCH more fun! Here's peeks to my layout, it's dark in color but not in heart! xoxoxo Pen

The perfect tool

Yesterday, my dear friend Timona surprised me with the most awesome gift. She gave me a book called, "Wreck this Journal". It is so darned cool! The perfect tool for a mixed media artist  who has artist's block!
Cover_thumb_2 Sorry, this is a little blurry....hmmmm, the beginning of my wrecking the journal?

Anyhow, this journal (by Keri Smith) is THE coolest, the author GIVES you the excuse to alter a book! Okay, she wants you to "wreck" it but isn't that the beginning of altering?

All of the pages are themed; some of the themes are:
Tie a string to this journal, go for a walk, drag it.
Tongue painting.
Trace your hand.
Make a mess, clean it up.
Climb up high, drop the journal.
Color this entire page.
A page for four-letter words.
Poke holes in this page using a pencil.

And many, many more themes for wrecking the book.

Keri, I don't know you....but I have to tell you....this journal is my absolute favorite, it is exactly the right medicine for a blocked artist. I am working diligently at "wrecking" my journal, I've already broken the spine....now that is fun. And, I'm having a ball drawing circles....I've kept it clean with the four letter words (there is only one cuss word and it starts with a "d").....my husband thinks I'm nuts but I WILL take it in the shower with me.....I don't drink coffee....will walnut ink work? I love the idea that I can alter this book, guilt free!

Timona, your present is exactly what I needed....it's just what the doctor ordered, the best medicine. Girl, I can't tell you know much I value your friendship and the fact that you (in Michelle's words) "Get me"! You are the sweetest friend, to give me something that forces me to use my creativity in some manner...even if it's destroying a journal....instead of altering!

I have to admit though, my wrecking of the journal....well, it's pretty so far! LOL Tyler told me it was very cool! I am "wrecking" it, I am just "wrecking" it in a very colorful, matchy matchy fashion.

Oh my, I just love this journal....it's "too cool for words"! You must buy this for yourself...or a friend. AND, you must "wreck" it! I can't wait to check out other Keri Smith books!

A couple of sneak peeks from prior layouts

I thought I would post "something" to my blog, just so you all know that I am alive and kicking. I haven't created any art to speak of, it's still not within my grasp but I'm accepting it and moving on. I know inspiration will hit soon. I am busy at work, I've been working on decorations for a retirement party and baby shower. I'm able to show off some creativity during these celebrations. The theme for the retirement party was: chickens. I made the retiree a crown of chicken wire, complete with: painted eggs, feathers, fabric chicken, beads and bouillon cubes. The colors were yellow, orange and red, it turned out rather cool. I created signage and a card, among other things. For the baby shower, the theme is Iris. I'm working on the party favors, gifts and an "advice book" for the new mother. This is about the extent of my art but hey, it's a start. Meanwhile, I'm going to show some sneak peeks of layouts, these are for the books that we cannot show our pages until the RR is done. Here goes:
